GROUP THERAPY FOR ADULTS 25+

Small Group Therapy for Clients Wanting to Improve Relationships and Undo Lifelong Patterns

Why Group Therapy?

You are ready to begin making significant changes in your relationships and you are ready to work hard to achieve this goal.

When you have come to a place on your therapeutic journey where you are ready to start putting into practice what you have learned and begin untangling and changing patterns - group is the place to make this happen. Group therapy is one of the most beneficial forms of therapy, but one of the most feared due to the prospect of sharing with more than only one person, as happens in individual therapy. I am here to tell you, if you can hang in there for a few sessions until the anticipatory anxiety wears off, you will be able to see how helpful group therapy is. And you will not be in this experience alone.

Not only are other group members wanting to examine their own relationships, each member, including you, will bring unique qualities to one another which help to strengthen and deepen the group experience. Through interactions with one another and heavy facilitation and support by the group therapist, you will discover what may be preventing interactions you are seeking, and you will learn new ways to relate to one another in group, and to the people in your life.

What Happens in a Group?

Groups are a form of highly effective treatment. In the groups I facilitate, I limit the number of participants to no more than 5 per group, Some groups have between 5-10 people, but I have found the intimacy and time management and focus of a smaller group to be very successful.

Group members seek out or are recommended for group often with the desire to develop more satisfying relationships. This can mean family, friends, co-workers, self, partners, and more.

Group members agree to arrive on time, take their fair share of the talking space, refrain from socializing outside of the group, maintain confidentiality and pay for group after each session. With these agreements, I help members share their thoughts and feelings WITH one another and TOWARD one another in group.

While relationships are one of the primary focuses of process group, all aspects of who you are and your life, are welcome. A variety of topics are discussed such as anxiety, depression, loss, stress, substance abuse, sex, dreams, and more.

All clients who are interested in group have worries and concerns, expressed throughout the group process. Some people worry they will feel overwhelmed or rejected, while others wonder if they will feel alone in their experience in the group. Sometimes members feel scared to take up space, and others worry there will not be enough space for their voice. All of these concerns are common and welcome.

The group and I will help you put these fears and your story into words, and you will find out so much about what you have to offer to others and to yourself, and what others can give to you.

Is Group Right For Me?

We will decide if group is right for you TOGETHER. This is a joint process where we discuss if what you are seeking aligns with what the group offers. You do not need to make this decision on your own.

After we have spoken for a few minutes over the phone we will set up two 50- minute intake screening sessions, where I will learn about you, your current concerns and your goals for therapy.

We will assess together your interest in group, whether group can address your concerns, your strengths and skills which would enhance your group experience, and which group in particular might be a good fit for your needs.

If I do not have a place in one my groups, I know many group facilitators in the Denver and Boulder areas and can recommend someone.
